Cervinia 2015 Skiing Off-Piste/Freeski GoPro

My edit from last week's skiing holiday in Breuil-Cervinia. we also skiied into zermatt but this edit was shot solely on Italian soil. it was quite a long transfer as we hired a car and drove from Geneva, through Mt Blanc and it took 3:30 hours in total. only thing for me was that it wasnt all that challenging. found myself dipping off into backcountry quite a bit to find a greater challenge. was still great fun though :) Check it out, it shows what a great resort it is.

Nice video. Snow looks superb. Nothing wrong with dipping into backcountry anywhere you go if you want another challenge. Maybe you should consider some fatter skis though? -)

I'm just booking to go to Cervinia end of Jan 2016, stumbled across a fantastic deal, and for the first time in ages I am planning ahead for next season while this season is still on!

Liking what I see on your video though.

Abysmal soundtrack IMO though, sorry.

glad you liked it, share it around!

they offered me some proper powder boats but as i didnt know what the on + off piste conditions were like, i didnt know how much backcountry deep powder i was going to be skiing. didnt want to choose the 'canoes' and then realise that i needed to be on piste all the time struggling to carve!

you will enjoy. defo ski over into swiss side too, Zermatt is beautiful and slightly more challenging IMO. just busier in the half term week when we went.

re sountrdack, if you check out my youtube channel and watch my edits from st anton, even though i bought the songs from itunes, they had copyright so i couldnt monetize and earn any money from these. at least this one lets me do so! ;) (wasnt my 1st choice either!)

Italian resorts are always great choice for spending your skiing holiday. I am thrilled by the blog article I've read recently - comparison of Chamonix and Courmayeur. What is extremely interesting about this article is that writer had used "If they were people" metaphor. I'm happy to share it with you and I'm sure it will help you with your decision -

Interesting article but is a bit black and white. Reality is locals in Chamonix tend to spend a significant number of days in Courmayeur. Both for long lunches but also because it has some of best offpiste and tree skiing in the Alps. I think many would argue that the piste skiing is also superior. Overall an amazing resort for a mixed group and so many options within 30min drive. Given is only 1 1/2 hrs from Geneva no idea why more Brits don't visit.

I've been to Cervinia, Courmayeur and Selva and i would say Selva is by far the best. The dolomiti superski area is enormous, i suspect if they made just a couple more links between some of the isolated areas it could easily overtake the existing biggest area title holder. the pistes are wide and fast, the scenery is spectacular with all these pink rocks and strange formations, it's a bit like skiing on mars! Courmayeur I liked too and it would make a great long weekend due to ease of access from Geneva - it's a short transfer, even closer than Verbs. Courmayeur is not as huge, but is big enough, the pistes were well maintained, some excellent food - the freshly baked pizza at the top of the cabin was so good i had seconds! and you could do the vallee blanche from there without having to do the slightly scary arete that you have to do from the Chamonix side. Cervinia is ok, some nice fast reds heading down into valtounenche, and the ability to do a day out in zermatt, but i don't know if i would stay there - i've only ever done it on day trips from zermatt, and although i liked the way it seemed sunnier on that side, the food and bathrooms on the slopes didn't make the best impression - perhaps i just got unlucky with that particular place though. In short - go to Selva if you have a week!

I have skied all over Europe for 50 years. The dolomites are the best and Selva is super. Actually I like Arabba, on the Sella Ronda, the best of any place I have been. The hotel Evaldo in Arabba is top of the line with food and service. We have almost 100 people there every December and most keep returning from year to year. Henry Martin (Sooner)

For the skiing, I would recommend Madonna Di Campligo, in the Sole Valley, Italy.

I was there for Christmas 2016. Whilst there was no snow on the ground down at lower levels (Falgorida), all the runs with the exception of maybe 2 Black runs were open with good snow coverage.

The only bad thing about the area I stayed (Dimaro) is that there was absolutely no life in the place. It was like a ghost town.

Would I go back ??? For the skiing yes. For the Apres-ski No.

I would add my vote for the Dolomites. It is a truly vast area and allows for some very interesting itineries. Also lovely food and reasonably priced.
