Mid-March you'll have no trouble; deep bases in place just about everywhere now and the longer range forecasts indicating a load more in the next couple of weeks.

Still aiming for the 3V?

I was more thinking that there would be no suitable holidays rather than a lack of snow!

3V on our list but also Zermatt, Wengen, Lech, Ischgl and probably a few others.

We could always go back to Val d'Isere! It's a great resort.

Lots of great accommodation all over the place! For chalets, I've stayed in 3:

1) Meribel Village:
Pros: Quiet, LDV is a GREAT pub!, most accommodation very close to the "Golf" lift
Cons: "Golf" lift is slow and gets you to the bottom of "Altiport" lift so a bit slow up the mountain. Many operators will take you into the Chaudanne first thing in the morning as it's quicker.

2)Meribel Mottaret:
Pros: More potential for ski in/ski out, Cheaper than Meribel centre, easy access from almost anywhere on the piste map
Cons: As mentioned, not that close to Meribel if you want a night out although there are OK places to go in Mottaret, very flat green run through Mottaret into Meribel could be annoying on a board

3) La Tania:
Pros: Lovely village, quiet, good places to eat, sunny, quite a bit of ski in/out, quick access to Courcheval and Meribel
Cons: Harder to get into and back from VT in a day as you need to get through the Meribel valley, not much nightlife.

However as many have said the 3Vs are fantastic, look at where your accommodation is with reference to a piste map and work out how easy it is to get to all 3 as that's the key!

Zermatt is the place to go at that time. This season there is more snow on the southern side of the main alpine ridge than to the north of it. Zermatt and other places near to it get more snow whereas places further north get the Foehn. I wouldn't go to Wengen.

This winter has been very warm so far, January was the 5th warmest since records began 150 years ago. The long range weather guess is for it to get very warm in March so pick somewhere high just to be on the safe side.

Holy topic resurrection batman! :D

Not yet made it to the 3V but this year could be it. Always tricky picking accommodation in a new resort in terms of access to lifts, eating out, ski hire shops etc.

Any thoughts regarding the location of this place?

I've stayed in Mottaret for 4 years, done self catering twice and catered chalet twice also. We loved the location as for getting around the 3V it's hard to beat, and comparing it to other areas it's a little easier on the wallet.......but only just.

Given a choice, next time I will go for the Meribel centre, the bars are better then Mottaret and it is more pleasing to the eye. There is a frequent bus running up to Mottaret though, but seeing as we got the police called on us last year for getting the entire bus singing tainted love (grumpy bus driver!) maybe avoiding the free transport next time we go could be an idea.

Wherever you end up you will love it, it's a fabulous place to be.
