If you go to any in demand ski resort over peak season your going to hit queues. But there are ways around them....(follow the locals and see how we avoid the queues)

Me too but it does fail on your criteria of lift queues Tony - worst waits I've had were the mornings in Verbier

That said it was New Year so I'd be willing to give it another go

maybe I will do a trip report of some awesome skiing we did in Switzerland last season. You can do it there without costing to much if you try.

Sure does.

Just back from Switzerland after a sensational week, yet again. And it cost LITTLE MORE than a regular ski holiday week normally does to anywhere else I have managed to go to, and included top quality food and as much drink as you wanted (Club Med). Ok you have to put up with crappy European evening entertainment later on, but go to bed at a sensible time for the next days first lift and it doesn't intrude on your enjoyment.
Lunch on the mountain included every day as well.
Scheduled flights from Heathrow with Swiss so free ski carriage as well.

Anyway, for those of you who still think its too expensive, carry on going where you like going in order to keep the Swiss slopes virtually empty all day every day. Thats the way I like it.

Its all about choosing the right deal or package I guess, and then getting extra lucky with snow while you are there. Have to say this was only my 2nd Club Med holiday, but in terms of location and VFM I really think you'd struggle to beat it.

And thats precisely why we picked St Moritz as its renowned for being expensive, along with Switzerland generally, but you can manage a top resort at a sensible price if you work hard enough at searching out the deal.

I have to agree however, that everything in Switzerland IS very expensive though.
6 of us stopped for a drink in the mornings and it was normally around 40CHF so approx £5 a drink on average (2 x Gluhwein, 3 x Latte and 1 x Chocolate with rum). I've paid more in France......

Well said, Tone, I urge everyone to keep going to Val D, La Plagne, Les Deux Alpes (yuk!) etc etc and leave Swisserland nice and quiet for those of us who really appreciate it! -) There's good value in Swisserland, as you say, if you work at it! Looking forward to the Four Vallees!

What a question! Switzerland is well well worth the trip. I would recommend Verbier ([link removed - read the rules! Adders]) or Zermatt! Best 2 resorts to try first! Great scenery, great skiing, great apres ski, all round beautiful towns. They are both pretty pricey but both need to be visited once in a lifetime. I was also recommend night sledging (great fun in both resorts)
