In all my many years of skiing I have never experienced the amount of snow here. The current local report shows 70cm at the bottom, 150cm at the mid station and 180cm at the top and that was before the big snowfall we had today. The current forecast is for snow every day and night for the next 6 days at least.

Anyone undecided where to ski this winter then this is the place and no doubt many other resorts in Austria.

I know J2SKI provide snow updates but I thought I would add my own having been here for 2 weeks and looking forward to the coming week.

Yep, we've been watching the forecasts and not really believing the amounts - to see substantially more than predicted start to arrive in many places... a proper Stau!

Enjoy, but stay safe! I'm sure you'll be aware, but for our other readers; Avalanche Risk Levels are expected to go to 5 (the max) in some Austrian areas tomorrow.

Austrian airports, roads and resort access have already been disrupted today and it's expected to be worse over the next few days.

Should be epic when it settles down!

Oh, yeah, and pictures or it didn't happen!

I live in Leogang - part of Ski Circus , and it has not stopped snowing since New Years Day. There is a point where it can be too much - and it has been a real challenge to keep pistes open. On top of this we have experienced very windy conditions - forcing lifts to close, and the route to Saalbach has been shut for a few days now. To be fair the lift pass prices have been reduced a little to compensate for this, and hopefully the situation looks like improving slightly . The plus side is that we have a great base now for the season which this year extends to late April - I have some availability in January , and from Mid March, and once the current weather settles down , the skiing conditions should be fantastic, and with no school holidays the pistes will be much quieter . Public transport, buses and trains continue to operate , and although the roads were not great yesterday, my guests all reported driving to Salzburg - normally just over 1 hour , actually took 2, but this on one of the busiest changeover days of the season. Other guests driving from the Netherlands arrived after an 11 hour drive - normally 10 , so under the circumstances things go well , and we are looking forward to some amazing January skiing

Last year, after monitoring the weather, we decided to go to Zermatt for the first time from California. Upon arriving in Zurich, we were told we couldn't get up there, too much snow... We extended our stay in Zurich and then on to Bern for a couple of days but were still told not to come up. On day three, I went to get train tix and as the girl was about to issue them, she said she wouldn't... I got a supervisor to issue the tix although she said we could only go to Tasch, I believe, and there would be no lodging available because people were stuck there trying to get into Zermatt. We get to Tasch and are directed to a bus because the train could not proceed to Zermatt. We get off the bus, take a shuttle to awaiting helicopters, and fly into Zermatt...!!! An amazing road trip followed by amazing skiing. This year I thought Saalbach but decided to wait and monitor the weather... Here we go again, although not for about 3 more weeks...!!! P.s. We skied Steamboat and Jackson Hole right before Christmas through New Years
with epic conditions...!!! Good luck to all out there and have a happy and healthy New Year of skiing...!!!
