More Flight Routes to the French Alps

J2SkiNews posted Sep-2017

Winter 2017-2018 sees the opening of new fewer than 13 brand new routes from across Britain into the airports that service the Northern Alps, Southern Alps and French Pyrenees. Grenoble and Chambéry airports are seeing the biggest jump in the number of flights.

New routes include Easyjet adding two weekly flights London Gatwick to Grenoble from 18/12/17, from £30.79 each way.

Easyjet also have a new weekly flight Bristol to Grenoble from 17/12/17, from £29.78 each way.

Ryanair are adding a weekly flight London Stansted to Grenoble from 19/12/17, from £20.39 each way and British Airways are adding five weekday flights London City to Chambery in January & February 2018, from £68 each way
In addition 4 existing routes into these have been bolstered with extra services from 2017-2018.

In total, that's 38 extra planes from 11 UK airports, winging their way to the mountains of France every week this winter.

Will these airports be able to cope with the extra travelers? Chambery is already very overcrowded every Saturday in ski season.

That's a good point. They are investing in upgrades which are already underway, and passenger satisfaction was apparently up (a bit) last season, but it'll be interesting to see if this can be maintained with more people trying to get through. I went through last Easter and found it was better than previous times though may just have got lucky with timing.
