Where should beginners/intermediates stay at Les Arcs - 1800 or 2000?

My 10-year old son and I are going to Les Arcs in the February half-term 2018 and are trying to decide whether to base ourselves at Les Arcs 1800 or Les Arcs 2000. Ability-wise we are both somewhere between beginner/intermediate (we both ski once a month at our local dry ski slope, can both ski down the slope fairly confidently, although both of us still use snow-ploughs to turn). We'd like to go where there is a reasonable choice of do-able runs for us, with a good ski school on site, but have received mixed advice about the 2 areas. Some say 2000 is better for advanced skiers and 1800 better for beginners, whilst others say that 2000 offers a better choice for beginners/intermediates and to avoid 1800!!!

Penny - we stayed in Arc 1950 last March and are going back next January. To be honest I don't think it would make much difference where you stayed as all the resorts are linked. But I think 2000 might give easier access to the slopes. We didn't visit 1800 as such so can't comment on what is like to stay there. 2000 is fine if you don't mind characterless accommodation, but we loved 1950 as it's really pretty and traditional-looking with nice eating and drinking places at reasonable prices.

To be honest all of the "Arcs" are beginner friendly as I recall. (Have stayed in Arc 1600 and La Plagne and skied all over.) I would say Arc 1600 was a bit "Dead" and souless but access to the slopes is a doddle and the other ones are also on the snow. I concur with what Peaski has already said about the other villages.
I'm sure you know Les Arcs and La Plagne are linked and I would say there is quite a difference between how the pistes are graded on either side of the resort. (I would suggest there are easier reds on the Les Arcs side than some of the blues on the La Plagne side which could spook a few inexperienced skiers)
