Huge Snowfalls in Australia
Login
There have been some huge snowfalls in Australia over the past 48 hours, with more snowfall forecast.
Ski resorts have reported up to a metre of fresh snowfall (at Perisher – pictured above), with 95cm at Hotham and 90cm of fresh at Falls Creek so far, and powder conditions everywhere.
Resorts reported up to 50cm of fresh show in 24 hours.
The snow caused some access road closures and whilst roads have now largely re-opened, several required cars to be fitted with chains when arriving/departing.
The amount of snowfall is not unheard of but fairly unprecedented in Australia where a one metre snow base at peak season is fairly normal and making do with thin machine made cover some seasons is not unusual.
Snowfall is expected to continue until Wednesday.
