More May Powder Alarms in the Alps

J2SkiNews posted May-2017

Social media is filling up with pictures and videos from closed-for-the-season ski resorts that are continued to be dumped on with May snow following the snowy latter half of April.

For many the sight of resorts getting lots of snow now after the dry start to the season at the end of 2016 is just a little ironic.

Others are pointing to great ski touring conditions for those prepared to ascend the slopes under their own steam.

A handful of ski areas in the Alps are still open anyway however with most enjoying great May powder conditions.

Tignes, the last ski area still open for the 16-17 season in France, open until this Sunday May 7th, and pictured above yesterday, reports 20cm of snow in the past 24 hours, as does year-round ski centre Zermatt.

Also still open, Val Senales and the Presena Glacier above Passo Tonale in Italy; Engelberg, Glacier 3000 (near Gstaad – closing Sunday) and the Diavolezza glacier (Near St Moritz) in Switzerland and half a dozen glaciers in Austria including Hintertux, Stubai, Kitzsteinhorn (Near Kaprun) and Pitztal.
