It looks like the 'final weekend of the season' for most of the ski areas that are still open in Europe, will be a snowy one.
Snow has begun falling this afternoon and forecasters are predicting 30-60cm will fall on higher slopes over the next 48-72 hours.
The picture above is of Val Thorens, which is still open and said the snow started falling at noon. A spokesman says the forecasts is for "snow, snow, snow" for its final few days of 16-17.
Most ski areas have already closed, but about 50 are still open although only a dozen or so of these will keep operating in to the start of May.
Many ski areas did not see much snow in March or April so some that were battling to stay open with machine made snow in the winter will now see snowfall after they have closed.
This is also the case in Scotland where there's been snowfall over the past 48 hours after a mostly snowless winter, but probably not enough for any of the five areas in the Highlands to be able to belatedly re-open having been closed since March.
Across the Atlantic around 10 ski areas are staying open in to May. These include Mt Bachelor in Oregon and sunshine near Banff in Canada which both reported 25cm/10 inches of fresh snow in the past 24 hours.
