Jet2.com bags query

Hello everyone. Its been a while. Much has happened in the past 6 months, but I am now back and heading out to Gressoney this Saturday. I have a question for anyone who has recently used Jet2.com:

They have a checked bag policy of 22kg and a maximum size as most airlines do.
They also said when we booked that there was no more ski bag availability.
I have one of those massive all in one Dakine bags that takes skis and all my gear so I have used that as my checked bag with BA a couple of times.
However, technically is isn't a ski bag so I shouldn't have to pay for ski carriage as its my chicken luggage. But technically its outsize of the Jet2.com checked in bag limits.

The tour op said no more ski carriage available, but also said they've never turned anyone away who turns up on the day as long as they pay for ski carriage at check in.

I just wondered how I ought to play this with the airline......give them advanced notice and pay ski carriage if they'll let me, or turn up and argue on the day its not a ski bag and they can't leave me without my gear.

And will I have to pay an excess baggage fee?

Just turn up on, you might get someone nice who lets you away with it. Worst case scenario is they make you pay ski carrage.

Good to have you back Tony. No direct experience with Jet2 but would be concerned about Gareth's advice :!: I know it stems from a positive belief in human nature but actually the worst case scenario is that they refuse to carry the bag leaving you with a massive problem :shock:.

This is probably most unlikely but could not be ruled out given that they have said that they have no more capacity for ski bags :evil:. Unfortunately, the days when common sense prevailed have long since passed and now you run the risk of encountering a "jobsworth" in the airport who hides behind the "terms and conditions" :evil:.

If they do refuse to carry your bag what options are you then left with at the airport with flight to leave in 90 minutes?

I agree. Just rocking up and expecting to chuck it on the conveyer is a dangerous game, and not one I would play. I would attempt to glean some clarity on the issue before leaving home.

You are all so negative, the tour operators told him it would be ok, I'd go with that.

I have experience of the fact that baggage handlers do not come under the jurisdiction of the tour operators. That is why I would not take the chance.

I did once see someone wear their ski boots on the plane from Gatwick, but I think they might draw the line at letting you wear your skis.

There is (or was) a service that will pick up your bags in UK and then drive them out to your resort in a van, but I'm not sure if they're still going - might be worth a Google though?
