La Plagne vs Paradiski

Hi,

Going skiing in two weeks for 7 days and staying in Champagny in the La Plagne resort. I haven't been before, or to any other resort in the Paradiski domain. I like skiing all types of piste including blacks and moguls. I wonder if it is worth buying a Paradiski lift pass in preference to a La Plagne one? Would I get bored during 7 days in La Plagne? Can the other Paradiski resorts give me something that La Plagne can't? There is just one cable car linking La Plagne to the rest of Paradiski. Does this get busy early morning and late afternoon? I wouldn't want to faff about with a bus.

La Plagne is very extensive in its own right so it might be enough to keep you happy for a week. However, if you are skiing everything, you might find yourself frustrated if you cant get across to the other side on a couple of occasions. Have a look at the official website - they offer a range of passes including the possibility of 1 day in the other resort. Make sure to look closely at the small print to see if you can upgrade your passes during the week (probably not - but worth checking).

The cablecar does not usually have too long a queue but it can take a while to get to the heart of the resorts from each other - my recollection is that it took 2 or 3 lifts just to get to the cablecar from La Belle Plagne and its another 2 or 3 to get into the heart of Les Arcs. I didn't think the trip was worth doing too often because of this.

Another thing to bear in mind is that conditions can be quite different in the two resorts even though they are right beside each other. I recall one trip where the snow in Les Arcs was much better than La Plagne.

Staying in Champagny you'll be at the opposite side of the resort from the Les Arcs link (Vanoise Express)! That said it's not complicated to get over.

......Most direct would be up the bubble from Champagny, +Borseliers, +Rossa, +Quillis...ski into Bellecote..+Arpette...then long downhill all the way from there to the crossing. But poss. 1-2 hours?? (could be more, obvs depending how busy lifts are and how fast you ski)

Beside, if you buy a six day pass this year I think they are giving FREE 1-day access to the other side anyway (check!). So you can take advantage of that and give it a go.

(BTW cable car is the only practical way over, public transport/driving is out of the question.)

Personally I don't bother with the whole Paradiski area pass when skiing with the family, happy enough for 6 days on the La Plagne side, but that's personal of course. A fast group might make more of the link. The link is perfect if you stay in Montchavin.

Take a look at the number of runs available - the La Plagne pass covers everything as far as the Vanoise Express lift...so includes right down to Montchavin/Les Coches*, up to the Glacier, all the middle parts of Plagne (inc Belle, Bellecote, Centre, 1800, Soleil), Montalbert* and Champangny*. (* lower villages struggling for snow at the moment looking at webcams).

I'm in Les Arcs this week and when we got our passes we were told we had one day free in La Plagne, sure it works the other way too. It takes forever to get from LA to LP but perhaps less so the other way. I personally wouldn't buy a full area pass unless you want to do both resorts on a daily basis.

I would say that if you are an intermediate or above go for the full pass.
Stayed in Arc 1600 and got over most days.

However last year stayed in La Plagne last year and friends illnesses limited their range and only got over once.
