Anyone been to Pila and can tell me what it's like? I'd specifically like to know if there are some easy runs that could be managed by a nervous early-intermediate, possibly supervised by an instructor. The piste map shows lots of reds, yet what I've read suggests it's a resort suitable for beginners. I don't mind skiing the same 1 or 2 runs over and over again, so mileage isn't important. I just need to build my confidence and practise turning. I've previously skied in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl and found them fine. Unfortunately they are too expensive this year. I'm limited to mid-March, departing from Bristol, which narrows my choices. Pila keeps coming up on TO sites, so that's why I was wondering about it.

Not been there myself but it's popular for school trips (Interski?) so I'd assume it must be good for early intermediates.

I do know someone who's there this week, so will point them at this thread...

In Pila now and I can confidently say you would love it! I have brought my 5 year old out for his first ski trip and he was skiing blues today. Lots of good intermediate runs and then progressively steeper as you go higher. Fantastic for confidence building - and one of the best things is the slopes are so quiet. Even today during half term the slopes are not at all busy. If you like Obergurgl you will love Pila, and it's fantastic value. If you can take a day off and go down to Aosta town at the bottom of the gondola, beautiful place to visit. Oh and we have had over 18 inches of snow in 48 hrs so the snow is just perfect! Enjoy...

Never been but is the resort people always point out when your skiing Italian side of Mont Blanc.

"Italian N facing skiing at its best", "Brilliant resort" etc.

Basically snow sure, Italian food, great value and confidence building terrain.

It would be perfect for your needs. I have instructed there with Interski and it has a run called Grimod which is one of the best teaching runs I have ever used. It's long, wide, has a great gradient and is serviced by a chair. You could ski it all day;

Sounds like what I need. Thanks guys. I had hoped that by waiting, the cost of Obergurgl would come down but it doesn't look likely and I'd rather get something booked.

It is exactly what you need; I'm note sure I've been to a better resort than Pila for an early intermediate. Perfect mountain for progression with quiet slopes and some decent on-mountain catering too.

Just booked Pila. Will post a review upon return, end of March.
