What Ski Resort?

Hi I'm hoping a few of you can offer up some suggestions for resorts in France or Austria within a 2 \ 2 and a half transfer of Geneva?

We're both advanced intermediates (I'm getting better off piste, the other half lives for it) I've begun exploring off piste and getting better at the "All mountain stuff".

We've been to St Anton several times but fancy a bit of a change. we tried Chamonix last year but I'm a bigger fan of Ski in \ Ski out if I'm honest.

Just wondered what you guy's would suggest?

A nice resort with a good mix of runs with accessabe off piste, good restaurants, a decent mix of bars and ski in \ ski out.

What have been you're favourites?

I don't think you'll find many resorts in Austria within two-and-a-half hours of Geneva (unless you have a private aircraft!). How about the Portes du Soleil resorts (Les Gets, for example)?

I was just reading your review from your Chamonix trip last year, is a shame you never got to ski Grand Montets. Although I rarely ski there myself it undoubtedly has more offpiste opportunities than likely any resort in the world. Plus sounds like you both would enjoy skiing a V Blanche and a day in Courmayeur where Youla and Arp both offer fantastic offpiste. Definitely not ski in and out but Chamonix is one of those places best visited more than once.

If you are planning on going in Feb, come again, choose a hotel nr a bus stop and will buy you a beer or a glass of wine. Plus we have all of the snow this year.

What about Saint gervais. Great area 400KM and about an hour from Geneva?

Hi, thanks for the replies! Guilty of lumping Geneva and Zurich together (that's how we do St Anton, Zurich and then the train) Doh!

We did go back to Chamonix (Ok, it was on the way to Umbria but we did stop over) :) was very pleasant.

Just back from Whistler so we're quite keen to sort something out for early March.

There were a few reasons why Chamonix left me feeling a bit "Meh", and if I'm honest, they are things you can sort out with more planning \ research.

Hotel we stayed in was very nice but the room we had was tiny. Was Grand Hotel Des Alpes, when we came back in the summer we stayed at the Auberge Du Bois Prin which was much nicer (room in comparison was mammoth!).

I blame the Mrs, first resort she dragged me to was Kitzbuhel and the hotel was right under a lift! since then it's been pretty much solid ski in ski out (Zermatt being one exception).

Goes off to check snow reports.......
