I know Finland is not technically Scandanavia but we just came back from a great trip to Ruka. It was marketed by the ski company as Lapland but it's actually a few kilometres south of Lapland.
The snow was fantastic, as you'd expect this far north and the slopes were varied enough to have a very good time on (the Russsian national team were practising there at the time).
We also had loads of fun off the slopes and saw the northern lights twice. So it's worth considering for that too.

Nice report. We are taking my god son for his first ever ski holiday next month. Really looking forward to the trip. We've been to Sweden/Norway but never Finland, sounds like we made the right choice.
