Just a quick question ...

We are hoping to go Feb half term skiing (we are stuck with school hols I am afraid). Husband has been skiing before but a long (long, long) time ago ... I haven't ever been skiing and probably won't ski either due to back and leg issues ... daughters first time skiing (she's 15).

Question is - will Niederau be a good resort for us. looking for easy slopes and easy skiing (husband now 50 and has the odd knee problem so will need it easy I think and daughter is a first timer).
Will there be anything else for me to do in the day? I'm quite happy going as I love snow and the whole idea of a skiing hol - but without the skiing! I love swimming and walking and chilling out (spa/sauna maybe??)
Are there any other snow fun activities we can do beside skiing? Tubing, sledging, husky etc?

Hi Cazgal. I have skied Niederau for 46 years, hence I have some understanding of the area.
Re your queries. at village level there are abundant beginner areas, with good developer runs at the top. All of the mountain runs are of a minimum of red standard, although there are some routes that are of FIS downhill standard.
Re your personal queries, Some hotels have swimming areas. Between Niederau and Oberau there is a classic walk. You can go up the gondela and head for a number of walks. There are trips into Innsbruck. there is snow shoe walking. If you need further info, please pm me, I will be happy to help.

Hi Cazgal, have also been to Neiderau a few times. As Dave said there are day trips to Innsbruck, Salzburg etc. You can also do tobogganing and there are lots of beautiful walks. On top of the mountain in Niederau there are a couple of nice restaurants where you can sit in the sun and watch the world go by. The cake shop in the next village, Oberau is a must!!! Called the Moorhof. You could walk to it from Niederau in 1-11/2 hours. Wörgl is the nearest town, 15 min on the bus. From there you could also get the train to other places. There are also horse drawn carriage rides in the village. The nicest hotels with pool areas are the Wastlhof, Sonneschein and the Harfenwirt.

The 1st Wildschönau Ski School is highly recommended (the ones in red uniforms). Their office is in the gondola car park. They have a website and Facebook page. The ski pass will also allow your hubby to ski Oberau, Auffach and Alpbach.

What do you think to the Hotel Austria? It looks perfect just at the bottom of the slope!

Stayed at the Austria and its a great choice, food is good, rooms also good and a good size and the staff are really friendly.
swimming pool is great after a day on the slopes to unwind the muscles.
also there is a ski shop underneath the Hotel which is really handy.

Is it quite a heavy smoking hotel?
Hadn't thought of smoking /non smoking hotel (we're all non smokers).
Is there any hotels that are non smoking? Is it that bad?
