Hi all and a Merry Christmas !

We re going to St Tiriol 16 Jan. We are not skiing, but, I am not sure what to take as I have read so many different reviews. I have a ski jacket, 2 warm hats and ski gloves, a neck tube and glasses as I have eye problems. But, I cant see the weather forecast and I will be sad if dont snow :( so think it will be a waste of time buying trousers. I have base layers and jumpers etc. Some say jeans will be ok, but my Husband said I will find it cold as I am a bit of a cold bird lol. I would appreciate anyones advice please
thank you

Hi Ceinwen :)
It depends on what your plans are.
If you are fairly active and enjoy walking around then what you need may be different if your plans are to enjoy the Spa, lazy lunches and generally watching the world go by.
A useful compromise would be to pack a pair of long johns or good thick tights and a pair of walking type trousers.
The weather can change really quickly in the mountains and being prepared is the key.
As you say - layering is the answer.
Hope you have a lovely holiday.

 well, yes, but...

It is looking like the first week of January in Austria, at least, is going to be much colder than it is right now...

ceinwen - jeans won't be warm enough to be outside for more than a few minutes; visit an outdoor type shop and find some fleece-lined / insulated trousers or you'll freeze!

Also, make sure you have some decent walking boots / snow boots - you want something with good grip (chunky for snow AND rubbery for ice) that will keep your feet warm too.

If worried about being cold it's cheaper just to buy some thermal leggings for under your jeans.

Whilst not making assumptions about the OP, I'll simply observe that most of the ladies seen wearing jeans in Les Alpes this season would struggle to get a sheet of graphene between skin and denim... let alone something thermal! 8)

IMHO stay well clear of jeans if your going out and about.
