Skiing near Bergamo

Hi
We are coming to bergamo in February 2016 and we wish to go skiing. Is it possible in February? And if yes can you please suggest the best place to go? As we are both beginners and we are going to travel from bergamo to the ski area with publice transport. Also the ski resort need to have a shop to hire the skiing accessories as we only have skiing clothes. I appreciate if someone can help me.
Thanks a lot

Hello,
are you actually staying in Bergamo or are you just landing at Orio al Serio airport?
I know there's a place called Piani di Bobbio, not far from Lecco (you get to the Piani via cable car from Barzio). I understand the place is ideal for beginners. Not sure how you'd get there by public transport though.
Any ski resort you go to will have ski hire shops and ski schools
How long are you planning to stay?
When in the area, I usually go to Madesimo. The first time I went I'd been skiing for 2 years (not really an expert). I still find those runs challenging, but doable even if you're not Tina Maze!!!! The hotel we go to , organises pick ups from the main airports, so if you're interested you could perhaps contact them.
Let me know

Thanks a lot for your help
We're going to stay for a week. But we already booked the hotel in Bergamo so if we can go skiing by public transport from Bergamo would be better.

Hello, in that case unfortunately I don't know as all the resorts in the area are at least 1hr 1.5hrs drive from Bergamo. Maybe enquire at the tourist office when you're there.
Foppolo is not far, but again I think it's a good hour drive. If you hire a car you can easily get there and back, but I don't know how doable it is by public transport. Unfortunately, although in a mountainous area, I don't think those mountains are high enough for ski resorts, you need to go further North
Good luck though. Hope you get to do a few days on the snow
