I am looking forward to travel in Austria during those months (December or January) and I had some problems finding accommodation.
My stay duration will be about 7-9 days and I have chosen ischgl as the most suitable ski resort for me .
My question is when should I book my hotels, ami late or should i wait ?
(Exact dates 20-28 December
Or 1-8 January)
Those dates are variable because I don't know about the accommodation.

Your dates are over two holiday periods when hotels would hope to be full. Leaving a booking till late - you may find most hotels are full.
Late booking is great for low season holidays but not peak season.

What I am trying to find is a good ski in and out hotel in ischgl but as I see via booking.com there are no available rooms. Is there any possibility that the hotels are all full? Or this is what booking shows ?
Thanks a lot for the answer.

The problem you will probably encounter is the fact that a lot of the hotel rooms will have been hoovered up by the tour operators for the peak weeks. We were struggling to find a hotel room outside of a package deal for our Val d'Isere trip. In the end we went for a self catering apartment option.

Ok thank you I will prop ably try to meet a tour operator.
One more question are there any places near ischgl (1-2) hours away with the car to visit?

Chris,
Your OP asks about Christmas or New Year. Austria is a strongly Catholic country, and for Christmas, the emphasis is on church service and family. At New Year, you can expect great firework celebrations.

A Tour operator would be a good start place. Although I do DIY in Austria every season, be careful at Christmas/New Year.

Ischgl is a favourite with Germans, and they arrive both by car and public transport. PT at NY is very, very crowded. Not just standing all the way, but standing on your luggage, which you have already positioned ontop of your mate.

I'm not sre you need to consider driving elsewhere. there are 240km of pistes. the ski bus links with Galtur and Kappl.

Thank you for your reply.
I didn't clearly understood what you were trying to say about DIY and what should I be aware of.
Now,about the places near ischgl, I am not looking for resorts or alternatives for skiing but for touring. The half of the group are not skiers so they would like to explore the area around the resort.
Any good suggestions?

Apologies, you are correct, I didn't explain the DIY. The logic is simply that there is a higher level of DIY in Ischgl, thereby putting pressure on accommodation, compounded by this being the holiday period.
