Hello fellow skiers,

I started to plan my trip to Val Thorens for the next year in March. Yes, I know it is too far, but your suggestions might influence my choice of a ski resort. I've never skied in Europe, and would like to go try at least once and selected 3V area. So I found a new Club Med in Val Thorens. I can get free airline tickets from Los Angeles to Paris, but not closer to the destination.

Now the question: how can I get from CDG airport to Val Thorens? Club Med offers some transfer options, ex. from Moutiers train station - $128 both ways or from Geneva or Grenoble $500. So, I should probably stick to Moutiers destination. But how do I get there?
Are there any cheaper solutions? For example TGV? And if yes, then how should one proceed from CDG airport in Parris to Moutiers? If I need to change a train, where do I do it?

Also, can I carry my ski tube with me on a train or it is too much hassle and cost money, and it would make more sense to rent them in the resort?

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions,
Cheers

Train is a great idea and there is a very good service from Paris to Moutiers.
Both TGV direct during the day and an overnight sleeper train as well.
How to do this will depend on your time of arrival in Paris and whether you can get to Val Thorens on the same day or will need to overnight somewhere - maybe even on the train!
It does look like you have been given a transfer quote for a private taxi from both Moutier and Geneva. There are far more economical ways to do the final part.
Buses run regularly and this part of the journey is quite simple from Moutier - although there may be a bit of walking etc in resort from the bus stop to the hotel.

If you want to look at using the train rather than another flight to Geneva then I use - https://www.capitainetrain.com/en but there are some rules about which country you are in to buy tickets so you may have to search around for the right website and price etc.

For any more specific details I suggest you let us know the day and time of your inbound flight to Paris (and return).

TGV is probably the best option as it goes straight to Moutiers where you can get a cab/bus. www.sncf.com is the website. Don't think it matters where you are for a ticket, but with TGV you are booking a place in a particular train that leaves at a particular time on a particular day, so check your arrival time to Paris and allow for travel from CDG to Gare de Lyon. Not sure how early in advance you can book.

Thank you both for your advice. My plane will arrive on Saturday, 8 am, so I will have a full day to get to Val Thorens. But, if I go with a train, will I have to change the train in Paris first, then Lyon, then take bus/cab in Moutiers? It is minimum 3 transfers in unfamiliar territory and with no knowledge of French! Yesterday I checked another option: to fly from CDG to Geneve and take direct bus from Geneve airport to Val Thorens, the total cost about 130 euro one way. Will it make more sense (even if it might cost a little more than train option)? Please correct me if I am wrong.

You don't need to change the train in Lyon, there is a direct train from Paris to Moutiers, but you will need to get from CDG to the train station in Paris (gare de Lyon). I know that TGV also stops at CDG, but I don't think that it will bring you to the right train station in Paris as there are a few.
