I'm suprised that right foot in front means goofy, I'd have thought right foot was more common which the term "regular" would infer :hunf:. I think I'll do some googling.
Tony, I assume that was one of your boarder mates in the clip on the scotts thread?

It's all booked now, 2nd Feb (two weeks today but I'm not counting, honestly!) and I've got four hours of private tuition booked for Arabba. I may do more - it's unbelievably cheap there .

I feel like a kid with a new toy
...on board. Boom boom!

The guy in the red jacket is a mate, yes, he had only boarded 1 week before last week, and spent most of that week sat on his bum and drinking beer. You probably would not have imagined that from seeing him on that video clip, eh?

I dont understand why left foot first would not be regular.....I always lead with the left foot. Don't most people?

Caron, I am WELL jealous of you going to Arabba, I think it is on next years list for sure now. I want lots of photos and a FULL report when you come back though please.

I'm not doing very well am I

Tony, I've just done the pushing test on my boys and they are both goofy (much giggling ensuing).
I'm hoping we'll have a new camera by then so will try to get some decent photos. I'm eagerly awaiting LynnD's return.

I ride goofy! i agree about the knee brace, i rode with mine in the beginning just to be sure, but dont get anywhere near the discomfort from boarding as i did from skiing. Sounds like you have lots of tuition booked which is a great idea. Been said above, you will fall over and over again in the beginning and wonder if you will ever 'get it' but when you do!!! Practice practice practice too.
Gettig off lifts and getting on drags are SO different than when on skiis .... keep us informed as to how you get on!! :D
Not ALL boarders sit in the middle of pistes.....

Most people now using the skating on a shiny floor method to determine stance direction. Take a run, and see which foot goes in front when you slide. A lot of ski schools will start you out with a duck foot stance, so it doesn't matter which foot is nominally the front foot. You quickly figure out which direction you feel more comfortable going. Once you know whether you are goofy, or regular, it is best to set the board up that way, even if using a duck stance, because the boards do have a directional sidecut, and binding set back.

Thanks for that Trencher. My boys and I were all goofy on the shiny floor test but, just to confuse matters, mr-a was regular on the pushing test and goofy on the floor test, but when he did a bit of skate/xboarding a while back he was regular. I guess he'll have to go for the duck foot stance test. [all these new words are making my day ].

Thanks boardbiker. I will wear my brace to see how I get on, it'll also offer a bit more protection for when I fall on it. I'm slightly nervous about the lift thing but at least my friends are looking forward to having a good laugh at me

Skateboarders are often goofy on one, and regular on the other. This is because they often skate with their rear foot on the skateboard (the opposite of snowboarding).
