Welcome to the loony bin. Hope you have a good time. Here are some pics of Sestriere for you:
This is the top part of the Banchetta run up on Monte Motta
This is the top of the Cit Roc chair at Alpette, underneath Monte Sises
This is the last leg of the Banchetta Olympuic run, quite steep and fast if you do it without turning!
This is red 3 over at Alpette, a really enjoyable run
This last one is taken from the really old bubble lift coming over the link from Sauze approaching Sestriere. I understand this and the whole of the link is being replaced for this season, so you should be able to get over quite easily. However, snow between the 2 resorts is often very thin if there is much at all and the link can often be shut I am afraid.
Hope you enjoy the skiing there. Its worth a day trip over to Montgenevre as well, but take a bus trip and dont try and ski it!
Sagna Longa - which tour operator?
I'm going to Sanssicario on the 24th Jan - cant wait, havent been in the area since 01 and 03 (in Sauze). Although, Serre Che has been great these past 2 seasons!!! :D
Cheers

Hi all,
I'm new here (I reside normally on a different forum).
I'll be going to Sestriere this coming January and am looking forward to it very much. Those pictures posted by Tony look very nice, so I wonder whether I'll be able to traverse my way over there too!
Club Med do a very good deal over there!

Good advice from Tony about taking the bus to Montgenevre, although it is a good fun day out to ski it if conditions are good. My partner and I managed it, only having to use the San Sicario Gondola(up and down), due to lack of cover.
A place often ignored in this area is San Sicario. The runs there are brilliant wide reds and its pretty quiet. Just dont miss the last link back to Sauze!!!!

Hi there,I agree with all on Sauze;however 2 seasons ago we stayed at a fantastic Hotel/resort- Sagna Longa- high on the mountain above Clavier.Few operators go there, but it is suprisingly cheap for on-mountain,ski in/out with pool accomadation. The only way there on arrival is by skidoo( included)and at night its a great thrill ride following the narrow trails in the headlights!! Its a great base as its smack in the middle of the Via Lattea and equi-distant to Sauze and Montgenevre(although in France, is included for 2 days out of the 6).All very easy cruisy reds back to the hotel and you beat all the early traffic as you are already at mid-station,Brilliant.Enjoy- Steve.
