The issue might be that the windbreaks weren't fitted with either crash pads or safety netting. I don't know what the Italian regulations say, but here in Switzerland structures like that should be a fitted with crash pads or safety netting.

SwingBeep, I think you are right. Netting or padding would be sensible and neither would affect the ability of the windbreak to act as a windbreak.

I was there Feb 19 with a mixed group and skied the Black 25 back from Sestriere on a few occasions. Its wide and if there's plenty of snow on it, its a lovely slope. Definitely not an option however for nervous skiers or beginners. The lifts are old for sure when compared with Austria or France but we had no closures. Sauze can suffer from lack of snow and we had very sunny & warm weather but the slopes held up quite well and if you have good snow the variety of slopes is fantastic. Sauzeonline is worth checking out as are their snow reports on youtube.

According to article in today's edition of La Stampa posted on Sauzeonline's Facebook the link will be open this season. From what I can make out they have installed new "elastic structures to protect skiers"

Was there last year. Lift system is still dated. A few of lifts had barrier tape around exit areas and you had to walk uphill to get next lift up. Skiing over to sestrierre you had to walk up quite a steep hill to ski down into. Needs investment. However if you can ski and are able to ski all the runs whatever the colour there are some reasonably long runs. Try and find nice wood carving cafe in woods if you there. Nicest people you could want to meet. Over in sestrierre on sun watch youre times as lift shut at 2:30 and no buses?! £60 taxi got us back. Prob wont return. Regards mik.
