I'm sure I'll be letting you know what we did and how it worked.

What have you decided ??

[A] To bury my head in the snow and hope the decision will make itself. :?

[B] Wait 'til we get there...more than likely 2 sets of instruction. (And Who knows, when we get there we might meet another family who are vaguely human and want to pair-up the wives)
if I'm not skiing then I'm kayaking.

Well in the end we used "Oxygene" in Plagne Centre - they were very good, I'd thoroughly recommend them.

We took two private instructors so did not mix adult/kids:
1 for 2 kids (3x 2hr afternoon lessons) and
1 for 1 adult (2x 2hr afternoon lessons).

The cost was 95 euro per lesson (for 1 or 2 persons), so overall 475 euro. The alternative would have been group lessons 5 x 2 hrs each (about 500 euro).

They all developed so well in the private lessons that I think this was a good result in the end. Plus we still had 3 full days to ski together as well.

if I'm not skiing then I'm kayaking.

More important than skiing as a family ( and taking lessons) is the ability level of skiers.

Very poor approach to have 2-5 skiers of different ability in same group. Waste of time and energy.

Let pre-teens be with other pre-teens and have fun following instructor.

Give wife a special ski gift ,,,a private lesson. Yes more expensive but you will get better results.
get an older skier/instructor.

If possible get same instructor every year you come to resort.

Better still video tape every year students!

Remember just have fun!
