Whatever differences Tony and I may have had, I will be the first to say, (for the most part), he is the God of the real deal.

I concur with Far Q, I have been to Banff many times and have enjoyed it more than Europe, the town is beautiful, the powder is amazing, great varied skiing (sunshine & Lake Louise) and the people are extremely friendly unlike some of our European counterparts.
Dont let the bus ride put you off it really is 25 or 45 mins rest at the end of the day enabling a quick cat nap ready for the Banff night life whether shopping, dining or partying.
Absolutely well worth a try.

I am in no doubt about how good everything else is, I have skied in Canada (Whistler) and will do again. However given the choice I would still go for a resort that has easier access to the slope; there are plenty of them.

Jasper was the other deal I discovered, but that doesnt have half the appeal of Banff in terms of what there is to go at.snowb4ndit wrote:I am in no doubt about how good everything else is, I have skied in Canada (Whistler) and will do again. Correct. However, the weather pattern in Europe last season and the forthcoming season ahead have got me worried that I might actually run into bad enough conditions as to spoil my enjoyment, and I do not want to run that risk. I always ski at altitude by choice, or head somewhere with a fantastic snow record at least, and thus far (touches wood) I have not been unable to ski on a holiday, but I fear the time is coming when thats going to change, and therefore the only other option is to consider heading across the Atlantic.tonypants wrote:TowerBridge Andy wrote:Tony_H wrote:The wife hahahaTowerBridge Andy wrote:Tony_H wrote:Banff, 21st Jan; flights, transfers and 4 star accommodation £600 all in.
I might just give Europe the boot this time.
Jesus that's cheap, who with?
I walked right in to that ha ha
Tony, very good however, That's the first time I have heard you talk about going across the pond, you always say its too far. )
I would prefer not to take a 10 hour flight, or a 4 hour transfer, but the more people I speak to who have been insist that once I have been, I will never return to Europe again. I scoff at such a sweeping statement, but maybe just maybe the time is upon me when I need to find out for myself.
Initially I was also put off by the cost of getting there, but when you consider the cost of flights to US or Canada, the deals that are starting to crop up do look very arttractive. Ok yes, I will end up spending more on a ski holiday, BUT is that VALUE for money bearing in mind the extent, conditions, cost of eating/drinking out, lack of queues and quiet pistes.....????
I am not 100% convinced as yet, I'll be honest, but with deals like the £600 one, its very tempting to give it a whirl.
This business with Thomas Cook also makes you think twice about everything, as times are very very uncertain. A lot more uncertain than most of us either actually know or really think they are. We really are on the verge of a change in world financial order.
Right, I'm off to trawl the net for January deals again......

Only opinions Dave, nothing to lose sleep over. And thanks, but I do devote a fair amount of spare time to looking )Dave Mac wrote:Whatever differences Tony and I may have had, I will be the first to say, (for the most part), he is the God of the real deal.

I think we will see a big change in the weather in the coming weeks and be pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
But I always look on the brightside.
