We'll be arriving on holiday in Soll on Saturday. If we wanted to catch some of the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbuhel on Sunday, how could we do it?

There is a race at 1.30pm, so could we ski/bus to get there by then and is it on the same Skiwelt lift pass? Looking at the piste map, it looks like it would be easy-ish to get to Brixental and then maybe catch a bus to Kitzbuhel.

We'd need to bus it back I suppose at the lifts will have closed.

If it's do-able, is it worth the hassle? Or better to ski locally, stay in a bar in Soll and watch the fun on TV?

That's because I prefer skiing hols and not watching hols and it will be packed.

Watched FIS Night Slalom race on 23 Dec in Madonna di Campiglio from the balcony of our apartment. The friends had the slopeside tickets but came to us for the second run as we could see the close up coverage on the big screen from the balcony(& on TV in the room). Town was absolutely heaving with people and had a great atmosphere but if I had to make a special trip to see the race I think I would've planned it well ahead, traffic was pretty bad. As we were staying right in the centre we enjoyed the experience though.

To answer your question I think I would stay in Soll and enjoy the race on the screen with a nice glass of whatever. Less hassle.

Was lucky enough to be at the race in 2012 when Cuche won for the 5th time. Absolutely fantastic experience.
Yes, you will get a better overall view of the race if you watch it somewhere on TV, but the experience and fun of being there was something else. There are actually several large TV screens all around the finish.
Huge but friendly rivalry between all the competing nations. The race was actually shortened that year due to too much snow. I remember watching Bode Miller and am still amazed at how he managed to recover from his second mistake on his run - there was a huge collective intake of breath from the crowds at the finish line watching it on the big screen.
The town is just buzzing from the day before and the night before the race all bars are great craic! - Bode was actually seen partying the night before!
Trains and buses are constantly arriving with crowds all morning, so there should be some public transport available from Soll. If you can get there, then get there early as there are small events around the town centre, and great atmosphere, to enjoy. Also, if you go and want a particular spot to watch from then you will need to get to the event well before the race. There is an extra cost for the large seated stand. One small tip - due to the huge crowds there, it can get very slippery underfoot. If you end up having to walk further up the hill to get a good view (as we did) then you will need to ensure you have very good snow boots, or buy those cheap items that you can attach to your boots to assist with grip.
Just one thing - the race was actually on a Saturday - are you sure it is on Sunday this year.

Downhill was a big disappointment. Race dramatically shortened due to fog higher up. As a result it was a short sprint to the finish line - not the usual exciting marathon it usually is :(. By contrast, the Wengen downhill the previous week was great. Amazing to see these supremely fit athletes literally unable to hold a turn by the time they reach the end zone with several of them clattering into the protective padding . Its only about 2mins, 35secs but incredibly intense
