Hi,

We would like to go to Portes du Soleil this winter.
We will travel outside UK school holidays period.
We prefer to fly from London rather then drive.
Our preferred base is Chatel or Avoriaz.
We usually go on package ski holiday, however would like to try DIY this time, especially to Chatel.
Can you please offer some advice on:
-Good, but not too expensive accommodation choices in Chatel
-best airport/airline choice
-resort transfer options.

Many thanks for your help -)

Kind Regards,

Andrew

Nearest airport Geneva, Chatel is about an hour and fifteen minute drive from Geneva.
If you hire a car it is a pain in backside as you have to get a bus to car collection point.
Airline choice any but the Irish lot.
Prefer Chatel to Avoriaz mainly due to my disgust for the avoriaz architecture, Just close your eyes as you ski through Avoriaz.
So much accommodation in Chatel, internet search I find is the best option, there are some Catered chalets if that floats your boat, but we booked an apartment
Chatel is quite a big resort so in other words spread out, select accommodation carefully to aviod buses and long walks.
Skiing, huge amount too much for one week, We did not touch Switzerland or Morzine.

We spent a great week there and will go back again sometime.

Remember DIY is seldom cheaper than the Tour operators holidays but then you seldom have to mix with the drunk groups who have
spent most of their time in the Weatherspoons in Gatwick.
I hope that helps a bit if you require any more information send me a PM ..... -)

I head up the A1 all the time in winter. The sad reality is that the A1 is generally a palaver. Heading the other side of the lake possibly worse. Even Mr Optimistic Google maps says 1 hour 35 from the airport. If/when we get snow I will let you know how long it takes to get from my house (near airport)to Chatel. I will push Extra hard to see if I can get near 95 minutes.

Don't you push too hard Judder ..... no damage to you or your vehicle is required pre season to prove a point .... Bon Sci -)

Am Off for a week in Chatel 2/01/2015 and can't wait.
Driving out so can get 8 days skiing and staying in a friends apartment so quite a cheap holiday.
will let you know what I think.
