This is probably just me, but am I right in thinking there should be much more snow cover in Austria by now?
Booked to go to Saalbach in early Jan and looking at the webcams there is no snow there yet. Also the temperatures seem to be unseasonably high. Some days in the town they are still getting 19c.
Probably just excitement mixed with panic, but I'm starting to consider packing my mankini in case I end up sunbathing instead of skiing!
Been skiing for a few years now and I'm pretty sure in the past there has been more snow than this by this time of year.
Skied: On snow, On water, On mud, On slush, On ice. Oh, and on a few dry slopes.

Too early for panic stations yet, Doug. The ground is still cooling. It is snowing today, should be around 10cm above Söll. This will be followed by 2/3 days of warmer weather, before it is scheduled to cool down.

There have been several sub-zero nights.

Funnily enough our local travel agent phoned me yesterday, and asked me for information about the Christmas snow history for Niederau. I apologised, and said I only had the history for the past 13 years, and would that do.(Average Lower/Upper slopes ~ 13/39cm December, 39/100cm January)

Söll has similar results.

Hope you are right Dave, me in a mankini is not a pretty sight and could well get Brits banned from Austria!
Still got trips in Feb & March to look forward to, would just hate to have a trip with no snow though. Not much to do in a ski resort with no snow, and there is only so much I can drink nowadays.

Absolutely this.

It's only 2 years ago (or is it 3?) that it didn't snow until 1st December ... and by Xmas there were 6 metre depths being reported from Austria and resorts being snowed in.

It does look like the mild weather is out-staying its welcome but plenty of time for that to change.

I'm sure just the threat of your mankini has got the weather Gods worried...

It was 3 years ago Admin. I remember because it was the year I retired. Took a chance on a xmas chalet in St Anton when the pastures were green and the prices low. The snow arrived early December and conditions were fantastic.
I've also skied Hinterglemm many times in January and, although some years have been better than others, there has always been plenty skiing to be done!

Two years ago There was no snow in Meribel until the 9th December and then it snowed and snowed for weeks.
I had the best conditions ever on the 15th December for a few days when I had been worried up until the previous week.
It will come people.
When in doubt?....Flat out.
