There's something seriously wrong with a resort's lift system if the only way to avoid queues is to get there at 8am or take a taxi. Ridiculous!
This is even worse: so we have a supposedly modern, planned, resort with a lift system so overloaded you have to get there at 8am, take a taxi or get in a bus or minibus operated by tour ops and chalets.
Even more ridiculous! :evil:

looking to go to Bansko but i hear the lift lines are awful and the place has lots of drag lifts. Anyone have any first hand information on the place?

If you can ski avoid Bulgaria all together! It may be cheap but there isn't a lot of skiing when conditions are good let alone if they aren't, first country I skied in did Bansko and borovets in my first week of skiing and yes que`s are bad

I've been to Bansko several times and with the exception of last Christmas, the conditions have always been good. The gondola queues can be very long but my advice would be to get there at 8am or for about £3 each you could take a taxi up the mountain which is definitely worth considering. I'm going again with my family this Christmas and I'm praying for better conditions this time!

I have been to Bansko many times- the only real challenge is the gondola lift from village to the top, and generally during half term if can be bad. There are options- go early around 8, or if the queue is long by the time you arrive, take a cab/shuttle bus up. After that, once you are up, ski lifts are good, and the runs especially the reds and the black are long and can be challenging. Not so many queues once you are up.

It really depends what time of year you go. At half term and New Year the queues at the bottom are bad but for the last two seasons the resort has been running free buses that take you up the mountain to ease the queues.
The chalets in town have minibuses for a bit of queue-jumping too!
There are a couple of drag lifts but you can easily avoid them and use the chair lifts instead.

LOTA, as much as I have always respected your contributions, I feel the term "ridiculous" is harsh. You do not know the particular constraints or circumstances that other posters have.
More pertinent, severe lift constraints apply to some of the best ski places in the world. I have skied in many such places, USA, Canada, Europe, Australia. By far the worst queues I have experienced in Europe is in Zermatt, one of my most esteemed places to be. I go to ski, paint, and gawp at the Matterhorn.
But you gotta get out early! Or suffer a supposedly modern, planned, resort with a lift system so overloaded you have to get there at 8am.
Oh, and my ski experiences in Bulgaria have been positive, including observing really good ski school tuition.
