I am looking for some recommendations for a resort within three hours drive of Munich Airport please.
Wife is a non skier so it has to be in or very close to a large town to keep her amused in the day.
Seven year old daughter has one week under her belt, is confident on skis, loves the snow and wants to do it again.
We need somewhere with high slopes to get a good chance of snow in early April.
Can anyone help with an idea?

Early April, assuming you avoid Snowbombing week, there shouldnt be queues, and anyway you'll be skiing at Hintertux. So yes, you can avoid the queues if you are at the lift station at opening times. Not sure how busy it will be at the Tux though.

How about Obetauern? They are open unto early May. Only trouble is it's a purpose-built resort so not many shops but I'm sure they will have spa facilities. Zauchensee is also high up but I'm not sure how the snow is holding up. If you go there, stay in Altenmasrkt which has lots of shops and a great leisure centre.
The glacier at Dachstein is also an easy drive from Zauchensee and also from Obertauern.
Good luck!

I would second what Tony_H has commented. Really easy trip from Munich by either car or train. Free bus service to Hintertux and your wife will have plenty to do in Mayrhofen with the option of using the train for days out in Innsbruck etc

Thanks for all your input. Decisions, decisions. We will have a car during any stay in Mayrhofen. Does this make it easier to avoid the queues to get out of he village that I have read about?

I don't think you will have too much of a problem in April. car is handy for more flexibility for getting upto Hintertux, however not essential as the bus service is pretty regular. Depending on where you stay the car can be handy for parking at either the Horbergbahn or Finkenberg lift stations which give you a different access onto the Mayrhofen ski area.
