Brits do well in Slopestyle Final

Admin posted Feb-2014

Men's Slopestyle Finals in Sochi

American Sage Kotsenburg took the first gold of the Games ahead of Norway's Staale Sandbech and Canada's Mark McMorris.

Jamie 6th, Billy 10th

Nicholls was in silver medal position after landing a triple on his first run to score 85.50 but he made an error on his second run and fell to sixth.

But it was still Team GB's best ever snowboarding result and their best Olympic performance on snow in 46 years - Gina Hathorn claiming slalom fourth and Felicity Field downhill sixth at the 1968 Games in Grenoble.

With Jamie Nicholls progressing straight through to finals on Thursday, Billy Morgan competed this morning in the semi finals, qualifying first with 90.75 taking him through to the finals.

Finals saw some outstanding performances all round with Billy getting a best score of 39.75 placing him in 10th position.

Congratulations to both Billy and Jamie on making history by representing Great Britain competing in the first ever Snowboard Slopestyle Olympic Final.

I agree that it was compulsive. Just amazing. Do not agree that you could think about "expectations". There are so many things that can go right and wrong, and we are hoping that they all go right? I don't think so.

The Brits acquitted themselves well. Minor faults were severely punished.

Even the most knowledgeable folk are offering criticism of the judging. I certainly would not liked to have judged that competition.

A really good competition, noted by the camaraderie among the competitors.

The girls are going well this morning. Jenny Jones in 3rd looking good for the final. Aimee Fuller so close to nailing an awesome run, gets a second chance in the second run at 8.15am.
