Going out to Claviere for a week in Jan.2014, and having read a few forums we are not sure which lift pass to buy. Recommendation welcome please, Two adults both advanced skiers. Thanks.

I think the claviere pass includes a day in Montegnevre but I'd definately go for the full Milky Way pass. You'll ski Claviere in a day.

Got to agree, if you are both advanced skiers you'll want and need the full Milky pass.
When you go to Sauz and Sest, get moving early and keep an eye on lift times for the return trip.

Boardbiker is right about timings. I've skied on my own from Claviere to top of Sansicario (i think). Set off at 9am (on empty lifts) and it took an hour and 45. I'd imagine Sestriere needs a little more time. Great skiing though throughout the Milky Way.
