Hi,
I'm looking to book our 2014 ski holiday but seem to be going around in circles looking for a resort that would suite our group.
We are a group of 10 (5 adults, 5 children aged 13, 13, 11, 7 and 6) who I would describe as mostly early intermediates. We are looking for a resort with the following criteria:
Has long, wide easy cruising blues and reds.
Has a nursery slope and some greens quite central to the resort so that we and leave the mother-in-law to watch the kids knowing that they can't go too far.
Somewhere that's fairly snow sure and quiet towards the end of Febuary.
So far we've looked at Cervinia but been told all the runs look identical and very prone to bad weather. Saalbach but heard that there are a large amount of very steep blues. Soldeu, been advised that the nursery slope are up on the pistes away from the town. Alpe de Huex did look perfect but our half term coincides with the Parisians half term so it will be very busy.
Finally we looked at Madonna Di Campiglio which again looked perfect until I read there is no nursery slope and a bus has to be caught to the next village to use theirs. If anyone has been to any of these resorts I would appreciate your feedback and help deciding. All other recommendations are very welcome...Thanks!

Have you thought about Niederau? I haven't been there myself, but I know people who have, and they say it is very good for kids, beginners, and lower intermediates :)

And the ski area has recently expanded, so I should think it would be even better than it was before :)

Schlick2000. You have probably never heard of it, but I promise you will not be disappointed. I cannot speak for Apres Ski, this is not where you go to party. But for what you ask, fantastic.

Hi,
Thanks for both replies.
I've had a quick look at Schlick2000 and it's got some excellent reviews. The only worrying aspect for me is the size of the ski area. On reflection my post was probably not totally accurate, at least 3 of the group should be described as intermediates. during our last holiday to Isola 2000 we (3 of us) skied the area (120km) in about 4 days so ideally we would rather an area of equal or larger size. Sorry if I sound a little ungrateful for the excellent recommendations, I really do appreciate the help, perhaps I'm being too specific. Thanks again!

Well, how about Courchevel 1650 then? It is expensive, but you didn't say anything about cost. And I've actually been there myself and I think it would be great for kids, beginners, and lower intermediates - and those who want to ski miles and miles could ski the whole 3 Valleys - that's 600 Km - surely enough?

There are free buses to Stubai Glacier / Gletscher half an hour away. The glacier is by no means steep, and has some very long unpisted ski routes suited for intermediate or above. But in January can be cold or windy.

Big resorts give more variety, but are usually far busier, and pistes more likely to be moguled up and skiied out. Maybe France does has resorts offering best of all worlds, I only ski in Austria, but I hear some of the French resorts are really nice. But again, maybe busy, which in my mind is adds danger for all, and beginners more so.

Have a look at Livigno, reasonable prices, a tad spread out, so it is important that you select your accommodation wisely to save travelling on busy ski busses.
As for milage anything around 100k should suit as if you get bored you have Bormio on a free bus 30 mins away and they also organise trips to St Moritz which the livigno pass allows one day skiing there, Bormio is also included on the livigno lift pass.

What about 'the next village', ie Folgarida. No green runs but the blue 'Bambi' piste' is the easiest I've ever seen. The blue 'Panoramica' is a natural progression from there. Lots of nice 'cruisy' reds and a few blues between the top of Monte Spolverino and Marilleva, plus the option to extend your lift-pass if you want to ski MdC. 1300 is a little quiet at night, but the Eta Beta bar is good fun if you catch it at the right time.1400 appered a little busier when we skied there but I don't know what it's like in the evening. Been to 1300 twice with my tribe. PM me if you want any more details. Hope this helps.
