Hi,

We have just bought our youngest a new jacket which has come with Recco avalanche rescue reflector built in. We didn't know it came with it.

Has any one any info on this.

Recco receives a lot of derision from people who ski off piste, because it has many limitations. It would not provide much security in off piste/back country situations.

However, on piste, or within the ski area, Recco provides a means to locate people who would not normally be wearing a transceiver in that situation. Most large resorts are equipped with Recco locator. People will point out that few people have been saved by Recco, but that's because there are few avalanches on piste.
because I'm so inclined .....

Sports Direct were doing some cheapish jackets with this built in.

And the best bit is that youngest will think they are a "real" skier with the logo on their sleeve !!

The "youngest" is 15 taller than me, can ski me into the ground, is doing his off piste "training" transceiver etc location training. Going off piste with a guide / instructor. :D

He liked the colour of the jacket and he can get his body armour underneath.

But it made me feel good when he pointed it out to me, so I asked you lot so I would not appear any more stupid than necessary.

Thanks

Back in the early nineties, every jacket I brought always had a Recco reflector, they seemed to disappear in the late nineties
