HI,
My boyfriend and I have flights to Venice (Treviso) on New Year's eve for 6 nights. We'd like to make the trip into the Dolomites to try out some snowboarding (we're complete beginners).
We're not massive party animals but would like somewhere we can have a few celebratory drinks on NYE. We have a budget of around 400-500 euro each for accommodation but if we can find cheaper then all the better.
We've seen that there are a lot of "working farms" around Alpe di Siusi with rooms but we're not sure if these exist around the more Southern regions of Arraba, Marmolada, San Martino etc.
Any suggestions?

Alpe di Suisi/Seiser Alm would be a nice choice for beginner snowboarders. Good value skiing and accommodation. Great food. Great coffee. Stunning scenery.

Another option could be Moena: handy for Trevalli/Lusia and Passo San Pellegrino. I've banged on at length about it on the thread: Dolomites: Arabba v Moena. Just a thought :-)

OK, lets try again. It isnt easy to find a working farm to stay at during the winter which gives easy access to lifts without your own transport. Mind, I dont say that this is impossible. By their very nature, farms are off the beaten track - such as the one we are in - and long walks to buses come to mind. Also, as I guess you may have discovered, Alpe di Siusi is the 'wrong side of the Dolomites' if you are flying into Venice. Next time, consider flying into Innsbruck - the transfer is easier, quick and, I guess, costs far less. I would suggest that you need to look for a mountain top refuge, which is typically as good as a farm, but usually operates as a restaruant during the day. look carefully and find something for €55/60+. There are some stunners and we have stayed in a few! Very quiet on an evening, but no pushing at breakfast and piste is outside the front door which guarentees your first on the piste. There is much to tell, but give me some feedback and I'll try to offer more specifc information! Ciao, Tim
