Airlines Launch New Ski Routes

J2SkiNews posted Jun-2012

Several airlines have announced new routes for winter 2012-13 which are already available to book.

Monarch Airlines will launch 10 new 'ski routes' including flights to Grenoble in France and Friedrichshafen and Munich in southern Germany as well as departures from Leeds Bradford International Airport for the first time.

British Airways has not announced new routes but it is increasing the number of flights to two of its most popular European ski destinations from Gatwick next winter.

From December 18th BA flights to Turin in Italy will increase to 10 a week and flights to Salzburg in Austria will increase to five a week from the south London airport. The extra return service to Turin will operate on a Sunday and extra return services to Salzburg will operate on Thursday and Saturday.

"These routes are already very popular with winter travellers and skiers in particular, so we have taken the opportunity to boost our winter schedule with the extra flights," said Sophie McKinstrie of British Airways Gatwick.

Monarch says that with its new routes alongside its year round services to Milan, Venice and Verona it can now give British skiers access to routes in to the Alps and Dolomites from north, south, east and west.

"The launch of these routes for winter 2012/13 marks an exciting new era for Monarch as we introduce our first programme of scheduled ski flights and target a new customer base of skiers looking to fly to Grenoble, Friedrichshafen, Munich as well as via our numerous Italian destinations," said Kevin George, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines.

The new routes are four flights per week from London Gatwick to Friedrichshafen and four flights a week from London Luton to Munich. From Manchester there'll be two weekly flights to Friedrichshafen, three to Grenoble and four to Munich and from Birmingham three to Grenoble and four to Munich weekly. The new routes from Leeds Bradford are to Grenoble three times per week and to Munich twice weekly.

When did you last use Gatwick then, as every time I've flwon in or out of it, its been queue queue queue. Plus its full of south coast chavsters in their Fenchurch hoodies.
Its crap to get to, its crap for parking, its crap inside for food and drink and its always rammed.

Security on the way thorugh has finally been improved this year, but its still longer than Heathrow and Stansted which you mentioned.

In addition, passport control usually has 1 gate open when 3 flights land at the same time, approx 600 people.

Absolute rubbish.

By the way, I'm flying from Gatwick on 29th June, but at least its at midday so the rush will be over.

I fly to Fra 9-10 times a season always off the weekends and With hand luggage only cos I keep the stuff at base..
As for the chavsters or not and who is wearing what ,I arrive at the arport 30mins before the flight and always the first flight at 6 or 7am straight though passport and Xrays and head towards the gate and without a wait enter the plane.put my ear plugs on dark sunglasses -on and most of the time I have one hour of sleep.so don't even look who is next to me.sorry.
The same is on the way back but the very last flight.again within 15 mins mas I am outside the terminal.
I have never flown on a weekend though.
But not for that reason.because the Saturday is always the best day to ski because there are not any groups around-everybody has left and we all ski like the locals.Sunday before lunch is similar before the heavy brigades arrive up the mountain but then I start heading back and back to Lyon Chambery or Geneva to catch the 10pm flight.
Once or twice had to wait up to an hour but only in Geneva.
Lyon is perfect every time.
As for parking around Gatwick I found that Off park is brilliant punctual and suits me fine.
And dirt cheap.not the same to be said about Stanstead where it looks like there is a monopol of prices for parking and it is always double of what it is at Garwick. So stuff Stanstead.

Park on the street in Bishops Stortford for free, 3 minute walk to train station, 5 minutes to Stansted for about £6.

You do the right thing skiing on a Saturday though, away from the crowds. I did a Sunday changeover in ADH this year, 98% of others are Saturdays, the slopes were practically deserted on the Saturday.
