Hello all
I am taking my family skiing for the first time.
The kids can ski. Bulgaria and USA.
I have snow boarded in a fridge, LOVE IT.
the wife and i are due to start ski lessons
I have booked Andorra on a whim over new year break to escape England and to do something different
But it will be one heck of an expensive mistake if no snow.
I am also concerned that I am out of Soldeu and me thinks I should change, if so should i go somewhere else completely?
Andorra seems good for beginners skiing but very quiet and whilst I am not in the 18-30 bracket i would like some nice village atmosphere christmas card style apre ski shopping.
Kids 23 & 17
wife 50th birthday (hence the trip)
Any thoughts before I cancel completely and go in search of a beach holiday instead please.

I feel certain there will be plenty of snow for skiing. Not sure this resort ticked many of your boxes, especially for Apres Ski shopping and Festivities at New Year.

Soldeu, small, mostly Hotels and Apts, El Tarter...smaller. Nice Hotels though, Andorra has been working hard to take it's accom upmarket over the past few years into the Spa market.

For decent shopping you'd need to go down to Andorra la Vella town. It's not a terribly pretty place IMHO.

Andorra has pleanty of snow making so no snow is pretty unlikely. Sure artificial snow's not the same as the real stuff but lots of the Alpine resorts augment the natural snow fall with artificial to make sure that the whims of the weather gods don't spoil your holiday.

El Tarter is quiet in terms of night life - much is centred aound the hotel bars - at least compared to some resorts such as Pas De La Casa.

Well you've booked it now, despite not taking advice from posts on this forum, so you'd be daft to cancel it and lose money. As you're beginners, it should be find for skiing and there will be snow. But its Andorra and not the Alps, and personally there is a definite difference in scenery and ambience. Food and drink in Andorra is generally good, but you won't be getting picture postcard villages.

Andorra La Vella is good for shopping but its a bustling city and only connected to the outlying resorts by bus. It has some great spa facilities though if you like that sort of thing.

Let us know how you get on.
