I'm planning next year's half term ski holiday. It's a first for our family so I need somewhere hassle free to get them used to the idea. I'm a passable skier and have been begging to go for years, but husband has only been once before - with school yonks ago somewhere in Bulgaria, just after it was post-communist and a bit rubbish so he hated it. I need somewhere good to change his mind...

He's not a great flier so we're limited to resorts accessible from Salzburg as our local airport flies to there, and we also need childcare and ski lessons for children aged 9, 7 and 3 with no previous experience.

My ideal hotel or whatever would be half board, have a hot tub and be next to the slopes so no need for minibus rides. There would also be ice skating nearby and horse/sleigh rides and sledging.

All suggestions of anywhere that fits this bill welcome, thanks!

Hi JayP73,
You can find ski resorts near Salzburg here:

As you can see, there are a lot of ski resorts close to Salzburg

But the Austrian resorts tend to be lower than the French ones and often you have to take a bus to the ski slopes.

These are the 3 Austrian ski resorts I know something about:

I went to Saalbach as a child and it had nursery slopes close to the village, but I don't know about huskies etc.

And I've been to Obergurgl which has ski in/ski out.

And I know Niederau has slopes next to the village.

I can't recommend niederau highly enough. Perfect for your needs but no ice skating.
