J2Ski

Brooksy posted Apr-2012

As many may know by now some of us are going on the J2ski trip to Tignes on the 13th of January 2013 & as I don't normally do France & I am asking for any informed members for advice.

I would be flying from LGW & as there seem to be many options on destination airports which one is the best option, the choices are Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon & Geneva, I have no idea which is the nearest to the resort & could result in quicker & cheaper transfer times.

The Chalet site says that Geneva is the easiest but that could be because they only do there own transfer from there & that finishes at 1.30pm so people arriving after that would have to sort the transfers themselves.

Thanks in advance & in anticipation.

Hi Tony,
Brooksy asked me about this, and I said I thought it would be a very good idea to post a thread up on the forum and see what other people felt about flights and transfers. It seems to be a very complex area and I am not really a travel agent

Hi Everyone,
The chalet Bonjour-Bonjour are offering transfers to and from Geneva for £30 each way, which seems a very good deal to me. However, this is only for flights arriving at Geneva before 1-15 p.m. and leaving after 11 a.m. on the changeover Sundays, and Brooksy wants to consider alternative airports and transfers.

So far I have only looked at Chambery as an alternative airport, as it is the one closest to Tignes.

I have established that direct journey times from Chambery to Tignes are around 50 minutes faster than from Geneva (1 hour 50 minutes as compared with 2 hours 40 minutes). However, the flights that I have looked at seem to more expensive to and from Chambery as compared with Geneva.

And in addition some airlines have not yet released their flight times and prices for next season for Chambery. This includes Bmibaby, Snowjet, and Flybe.

Jet2.com doesn't fly to Chambery from London (which is where Brooksy is hoping to leave from). And neither does Flybe.

Furthermore, the Trans Neige public bus from Chambery doesn't go as far as Tignes, but only to Bourg-St-Maurice. So one would have to change to another public bus or get a taxi to Tignes Les Brevieres, thus making the journey much longer.

I have also asked about private transfers, which seem to be very expensive. I phoned Transfer Intelligence (phone number 0871 666 0754) and they quoted me a one way price of 220 euros for 1-3 people from Chambery to Tignes. I also had a quote from Europetransfer.com of 291 euros from Chambery to Tignes.

At the moment the cheapest flight I could find from London to Chambery was with BA (from London City) which was £160 return. Whereas London Gatwick to Geneva is currently just under £100 with EasyJet.

So I am currently at a loss to help Brooksy any further with this, which is why he is asking for help from the forum.

Thanks everyone for your help :D

Ally

Icy,
Thanks for editing your post :D

Brooksy knows that he can fly to Geneva from London Gatwick with EasyJet (on Sunday morning 13th January 2013) and take the transfer to Tignes Les Brevieres as arranged by the chalet, but he is looking for some help with possible alternative routes from other members of this forum.

I take it you will not be posting any info on this subject then Tony  as you can see Ally has done a lot of research on this subject & even more with organising this trip which in your own words would be so complicated it would never get off the ground, well it has despite all the doom mongering.

I started this topic because I always like to have as much info as poss to help me determine the best way to deal with any situation & that's where this forum comes into its own, most if not all on here are more than happy to help fellow skiers anyway they can to find the answers to their questions & please note this me asking & not the group as a whole.

Lastly just because someone is group organiser does not mean they have sole responsibility in dealing with all situations, we as a group should be willing to help in any way we can, its called team work.

Absolutely not as I know Tony is only playing as many of us do as you will also know, there is no way Tony could offend me, but he could unintentionally do it to others. :?
