ski lessons

We will be skiing in Tignes over Easter. I have tried to book group ski lessons but there is no availability. The complication is that although me and hubby have had the same skiing experience he is a lot more confident than i am. He skis comfortably down blacks but i ski down reds very slowly, clinging to the mountain as i go. I'm ok on blues.
We have never had lessons in a resort, just at indoor centres and i feel that i will never improve unless i have an expert help me. I wanted to book myself into a level 3 group lesson and my husband into a level 4 class but there is no availability. Would there be any point in us joining together to have a couple of private lessons? Separate ones would be expensive.

I think you could still benefit from private lessons even though you are both at different levels. If you have the instructor focus on technique then you can both learn things that will help with your skiing on what ever run you happen to be on.

A private lesson or two is a great idea - and will do wonders for your skiing and confidence.

I also agree with idea of private lessons. We (myself and wife) had a three hour joint lesson on our last holiday. We came away knowing where our technique was deficient and were able to apply the advice whilst we skied on our own for the rest of the week.

Which ski schools have you tried?
I know there are several and not just ESF.
If you are with a tour operator which do they use and can they help you get into the classes they will be using.

On private lessons - personally I think a two hour private is better than a couple of days in group easily. Especially if you leave the lesson with a SMALL list of things to work on before the next lesson - and then do the practice, rather than enjoy lunch, sunshine and end up just skiing as you have always done.

I reckon you should be selfish - if hubby is that much more confident send him off to ski and let the lesson be about you and your skiing. Bribery will work :mrgreen:

Cough, cough and I meant saying that this will make it much easier for you to ski together better. If you want to ski together then the closer you are to each other in, primarily speed, confidence and stamina then the better the experience will be for both of you.

They can work for sure but make sure you get one by yourself at the start of the holiday.

He did suggest that i should do the lessons myself to build my confidence so that might be a way forward. Maybe we could have a joint lesson later in the week. Who knows - i might be better than him by then!

We have joint private lessons it works well, you learn so much more, it is expensive. but you can spend the same money on a weeks worth of lessons & learn nothing as 1 person in the group holds you all back (talking from experience)1 days joint lesson - maybe you half a day & your partner the other half day (Plus meals) may work out the same money wise, but you will learn SO much more. If you need a number - let me know & I can pass on our Guide/ teachers name & number. We are also in Tignes 1st week in April. Good Luck :-)
