In deed, why is Austria so popular, so I will try and give an honest assessment of Ski Austria .....

Austrian Arrows airways, I would say are very good on time both ways with free grub and drinks although an over cooked hamburger on the outward trip sums up Austrian cuisine.

Innsbruck Airport a functional place if in deed you do not have any luggage, unfortunately Mrs W and I turned up with two cases, two sets of skis and boots plus hand luggage and believe it or not you could not get a Luggage trolley for love nor money not really a good start.

The Transfer ....... Once we struggled with our luggage to the transfer coach we were told by a middle aged rep with a dodgy hair cut that we had to wait for a Gatwick flight, it was not a bad wait as it gave our party a chance to bond and sunbath as it was 17 degrees at Innsbruck.

The Hotel ..... surprisingly very good most evenings French type cuisine was served washed down
with French wines and most people agreed that the standard of food was excellent. Large beer in the Hotel bar was €4.50 with a euro taken off for happy hour.

Mountain Food ...... This part was a tad on the strange side as there was very few mountain huts, what restaurants there was were large functional self service food factories, the normal offerings were on sale Sausage chips those sweet dumplings and that Goulash soup which really did look and smell like something my cat brought up but I did come a across a very pleasant dish called Cheese Spatziel with a cabbage salad.

To be continued as I am bored ........

The people ........ overall some of our party experienced some rudeness but I found the people to be
functional which for me means I did not see too many people smile apart my mate the hotel manager in Zurs who thought it was really funny when I asked directions to the Lav, he was a real good lad considering I was walking around his posh hotel in my ski boots.

The Skiing......... There is so much off piste available but sadly I was not fit enough to have a go at it which was a bit of a pisser, due to snow conditions early in the week the blacks were easier to ski than the blues.
I don't quite know what I expected but in my opinion St Anton is Ok but did I expect more, I guess I did and that is because all the hype about these so called top ski resorts.

St Christoph......... I liked it but too small, Mrs W and I do like a resort to walk about in the evening.

St Anton ..... Now I did really quite like this place it had character some old buildings and very nice to walk round.

Apres ski ...... Scotties bar was a favourite with our party at €4.50 for 50 cl of beer during happy hour and they served a mean Garlic pizza for €3.50.
Skied pass the Mooserwirt and I am glad that I did as I thought broken glass under the snow was disgraceful

Maybe it was just your injury mate, I'm sorry to hear about that. It must have been a real b****** to have that happen after all the excited anticipation.
Skied: Arinsal, La Plagne, Alpe D'huez, Flaine, Les Arcs, Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Sauze, Courchevel, Val Thorens

Thanks Ian for your report :D

I hope you managed to enjoy yourself a bit in spite of the trouble with your knee and the fact that you don't like Austria.

I was in a different part of Austria and managed to avoid you  at Innsbruck Airport, as we left in the evening, delayed because of the problems with our flights coming out from the UK!

However, I had a lovely, lovely week as always in Austria and can't wait to go back!

I guess it is horses for courses, and people like certain things, same with summer holidays and the very reason I avoid holiday resorts that serve English breakfasts, etc, etc.
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

I knew it wouldn't take him long to start moaning

I ought to add that some of the Inghams staff around the hotel were a tad grumpy and didn't want to do too much. Wine was served flowingly one the next table, in fact they often had a bottle of rose in a chiller before starters whereas I had to ask for rose only to be told they'd run out

Perhaps I ought to add that I only had lunch with Wickers in 2 restaurants up the mountains, neither of which I mentioned in my reports. The first was under Schindler, an outside affair with basically wurst or spag bol served outside. There is a posh inside restaurant but it was rammed. The other was Rendl Beach which is like a school canteen, typical modern affair although the Schnitzel in there was very good. Due to his injury he missed out on the fantastic Heustahl unfortunately. And I had an amazing Goulash Soup in Zurs.
www  New and improved me
