I have 4 days skiing in Switzerland (never skied there before) in late Feb and have vouchers for a Best Western Hotel. As far as I can see this gives me 2 options:-

1. Hotel Bernerhof in Interlaken, with daily trips on train up to Jungfrau region (Wengen / Grindelwald / Murren)

2. Hotel Grand Metropol, Saas Fee

Interlaken is a lot closer to Zurich (where we land) but has the daily hassle of the train up the mountain. Saas Fee is a good 3 hour drive, but at least once we're there it is only a 10 minute walk to the slopes. Looking for intermediate terrain (I'm too old to tackle the tricky stuff). Any thoughts / views / suggestions gratefully received :D

Given those options, I agree with Bandit. Saas Fe

I've only been in Interlaken in summer but I understand it's some distance away from slopes whereas in Saas-Fe you will be staying close to skiing. I think transfer is quite easy and it takes only about an hour longer - you need train to Visp then a bus. 3 hours is not a long distance to ski resort. And the village is charming indeed. Good intermediate terrain too.

The Hotel Grand Metropol is excellent as well! I've been to Saas several times - the weather can be fickle and can close what are high and exposed slopes.

However, it's more snowsure than parts of the Jungfrau. Both are spectacular, but the train up from Interlaken might be a bore. However, staying in town gives you options of easily choosing between Grindelwald, Wengen or Murren.

It's a nice dilemma, but I think I'd just go for Saas Fee,,,,

There are also two Best Western hotels in Zermatt, the Butterfly and the Alpen Resort Hotel.

It's quicker and cheaper to use public transport, the Swiss Transfer Ticket costs 130 francs. Car parking in Saas Fee is very expensive and unless you go the long way round via Bern and Vevey (>4hrs) you will have to use one of the car trains, either from Realp to Oberwald (30 francs each way) if you go via Andermatt or from Kandersteg to Goppenstein (27 francs each way) if you decide to go via Bern.
