Family skiing in La Thuile

Hello,

I have booked a week in La Thuile from 8th Jan with my young family, have a i made the right choice? 3V was to expensive for the whole family......

Been there twice now, Quaint little town, not too lively. Are you staying in the Planibel complex? Plenty of skiing for all abilities, ski into France if pistes are open and visibility is good. Food is amazing too.

I have skied La Thuile Good snow, good Restaurants, the only down side is the runs down to the valley they can get congested and they are of the narrow road type. But certainly worth a visit.

Never stopped there but skied there often fron La Ros and Courmayuer...I like the resort ..seemed very friendly and affordable ...the runs down to the village can be narrow or long and flat but there are a couple of blacks that cut the worst of it out ...the lift pass allows a couple of days skiing in other resorts and there is a free bus between there and Courmayuer

Thanks for your comments, Yes we are staying in Planibel Apartments, i got a great deal! just hoping the family enjoy it really, oh and its a nice warmup for me before the lads annual trip to Morzine in Feb!!!

Amazing resort. I first skied there when staying at Courmayeur and much preferred it so that's where we went the following season with my 14 year old son. We stayed at the Planibel Apartments. I suggest you read the reviews on Trip Advisor (I've put one on) so you know what to expect. After reading the reports I was actually far more pleasantly surprised overall. Be prepared for your room not to be ready on arrival in resort and don't expect a well-equipped kitchen. Also, take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. As for the skiing, it's just out of this world, although both years there had been a lot of snow. At times, even on the easy blues, there were no other people about. For complete beginners there's a couple of nursery runs directly opposite the Apartments with a travelator. There are lots of good reds for beginner intermediates/good intermediates and some challenging blacks. It's a very easy walk back to the Apartments from the gondola/off the mountain (red/black only though). If you want a proper meal there are some superb restaurants if you walk up into the main part of La Thuile. I'm sure you'll all have a fantastic holiday.

Been their several times and love the ski-ing. Very beginner friendly with some nice easy runs back to the top of the Gondola, but also a good amount of more advanced runs on the other side of the mountain and on the way to and from France.

The Planibel Apartments might seem a little basic if you have been to other resorts, I would say they are the most basic of all the places I have stayed, however, dont let that put you off, as if it's the ski-ing your interested in your in for a treat :)

Just thinking of booking this coming January's trip now and certinly considered another trip to La Thuile, but in the end we have decided on looking at somewhere new we havent seen, pretty much decided on Sestriere, would be great to hear the opinions of anyone that has been their!

I've skied Sestriere, but stayed in Sauze to do it, great skiing.
