Ischgl

looking for info advice tips etc about Ischgl. just got a great deal and will be there 19/3 in hotel Alpina. If anyone knows this hotel,resort slopes etc would be interested on your views. have looked into ski hire here and i believe there are only 2 places - intersport which seems to be close to the hotel or sport zangerl which i can get through online rental companies but zangerl is at the wrong end of the village(i think!!). any other ski hire shops here?

Hi mate,

Been going to Ischgl for a long time now, about 12 years. It's a great place, got back from there 2 weeks ago. The condition were good but they needed new snow, it's a snow sure resort with the main ski area being at 2000+ meters. There are about 4 hire shops near the east lift area look for Intersport Mathoy there are links on the Ischgl website, book online for a decent discount.
There are lots of good cruising runs always well looked after and if condition permit there's plenty of powder to get stuck into. They have a really good fun park with plenty of jumps from beginners to advanced. You can also ski into Switzerland to a little village called Samnaun, which is a little duty free place which sell all sorts of things from ham to watches, ski gear, perfumes etc.
It has a really good lift system and they always put plenty of money into the resort. Unlike a lot of resorts Ischgl is owned and run by the local farmers who run the hotels and all have shares in the ski area, so money is always pumped back in to make things better.
I stayed in the Apartment haus Wolf which is about 12min walk to the east end of town to the Pardatschgratbahn and Fimbabahn lift area. There are plenty of bars throughout town and lots of good places to eat; Hotel Alpina is about 5min walk to the east end of town lifts.
You can ski right down into town, the run splits to the east & west part of town. It can get busy at the weekend when there are lots of German weekend skiers come in and it can get a bit rowdy but fun. The area is linked to 3 other ski areas in the Silveretta Region, you can get the bus or drive to Kappl, Galtur and See. Just one more thing you can fly to Innsbrucke then get the train from there to Landeck and a ski bus from the station to the resort or a cab will cost you 60 euros.

great to read, that you were in Ischgl. Hope you enjoyed your vacations and had a great time in this ski-resort. From this winter on, Ischgl will extend the area covered by snow machines and there will also be a new chair lift so that the waiting time will be reduced to the minimum.
