Hi all,

Our daughter will be 14mths old when we head away skiing this year and we have no idea where to go! It used to be about the ski area and nightlife. Now it's "do you have a cot?" and "is it a quiet neighbourhood?" - oh how things have changed!

We're flying from Belfast, so looking for a resort accessible from Geneva. Ideally within 1.5hrs drive of the airport.

My parents will be coming with us, so the plan is that we will all take turns looking after her, but I was hoping that there would be a resort somewhere that all the runs come together at one be area with cafes and restaurants etc. dotted around. We would also want to get accommodation near here and there would also need to be plenty to do for those 'on duty', such as shopping.

Does such a ski resort exist, or am I dreaming?

Thanks,

Mark

I think a ski holiday with different types of people is always a challenge. I go with a non-skiing wife and we both enjoy it, but planning needs lots of attention.
I'd want to ask a couple of questions before producing a short list of resorts.
What time of year? Some thought needed about likely temperatures in the resort. If it is too cold (high resort, early/mid season) it could be miserable for the non-skier and child being outside. Late season and lack of snow near the resort could make meeting up a problem.
My solution is to look for the likelihood of good skiing (at an appropriate level) close to the "get together" point. This means that the skiers can get skiing quickly and get back.
Lots of bubbles is an advantage, great for the non-skiers to get up the hill and feel part of the action.
I am a creature of habit and am back to Courchevel for Christmas, we have tried some other resorts but the convenience of Courchevel for skiers and non-skiers keeps winning.
Mark - I think you are on the right track with what you are looking for but not going to give a specific suggestion as I think more questions need answering. Plus I dont know the resorts close to Geneva that well.
Good luck
Andy

My daughter learnt to ski in Le Grand bornand, good ski school, nice village and an hour from Geneva.

Hi there,
have you thought about the Portes du Soleil? We live there with our 3 young children who attend the local school and nursery. It more than does the job. There are also good ski schools and the village we live in, La Chapelle d'Abondance, has its own quieter ski area for families, plus is connected to the main Portes du Soleil if you want to go off for a fun days skiing.
We run a chalet called Le Dragon, our website is www.skibikeorhike.com if you are still looking.
