I have been skiing for a number of years now and have the confidence to go almost anywhere on the mountain. This is not to say there isn't room for improvement. However I recently saw a video of myself skiing and was very surprised to see how far my legs were apart. I am very flexible (yoga, etc) but also quite short (5ft6in) and slightly bow legged. Should I start to force my feet closer together? When I tried recently I ended up with black toe? Any advice appreciated. Regards.

Roughly speaking, skis should be hip-width apart - stuck together is not good, and unstable. So you are probably OK anyway!

As golfski said. However, if you are carving hard your legs will come together in the turn, though your skis will stay apart. Look at photos between and around gates from the Olympics to see how this works.

Wide stance equals stability, not so much in powder but on hard to semi hard pack definitley. As a personal experiment, try drinking at a bar all night with your legs together, garranteed embarassment. wider stance will also add flexibility to your skiing platform, allowing you to absorb undulations and situations that challenge your balance. The result is a skiing platform that inspires more confidence and help develop your sking development. So what if legs together was cool in the 70's, personal advancement in your sking is even cooler
