Hi,
Going to Zell in February. I was wondering how easy it is to buy lift passes in the resort. Will arrive Saturday- late pm - or might have to buy on Sunday morning. Does anyone know if it's likely to be a very lengthy queue ( We have several kids and a toddler in tow!) Someone said that you can buy them in sports shops - is that correct? Wondering whether we would be better to pre-order.
Thanks

It is really easy to buy lift pass tickets in Zell am See. I passed Schmittenhohe ticket office every day and have never once seen a queue. I know there are 2 other ticket offices- check out exactly where they are. You can pre book but personally I don't really think this saves much money. One other thing, if you are renting skis from Intersport-they do a bestprice offer for ski and lift passes combined where you can get upto 15% off the price depending on when you go- this is also worth looking at. Hope this helps!

Sued is right on it - no queues.

We are just back from Zell 4 days ago (great week, not the most snow ever, but plenty enough to enjoy ourselves) hope it stays cold and crisp for you. The queue for lift passes at City Express lift on Sunday morning 9am amounted to about 6 people and that was probably only because the 2 at the front were dithering over what to buy.

A few of us did pre-book them on this occasion and we got Super Salzburger ones for the price of the Zell/Kaprun one which covered us for the day we had in Saalbach which was a bonus. Not something I normaly do for Zell, but this time it actually was a good deal as it was something we had planned to do anyway.

Dave

P.S. If your travelling with a tour op. they usually sell them on the transfer to Zell and our guys who did got them right away - we arrived in resort about 9pm Saturday eve.

Hi. If you'[re there at half term there will be a big queue in the mornings getting up the cable - but it moves quickly. Just warning to ensure you give yourself lots of time. One thing I would do beforehand though, is to contact the skishop at the bottom of the gondola and book lockers. If you wait until you get there, they'll all be gone/prebooked. That'll save you carrying skis and boots around for the whole party. Makes for a lovely easy trip. Just go to the lockerroom each morning/evening and walk around in normal shoes from then.

Zell is fab but it's a bit of a hike uphill to the gondola each day - only 5 mins from town but with lots of kids and skis it's not so nice.

Enjoy.............

Thankyou for your responses.
Our apartment is very close to the main lift. However, one complication is that our friend's 3 year old is booked into the kindergarten which is based at the bottom of the Sonnenalmbahn lift ( a bus ride away). We need to work out where we will be starting from. If we ski from there we might be better getting lockers at that location so we don't have to cart them on the bus etc. I have been told that this is the best way to get up the montain anyway- don't know if that is correct.

We always start at the bottom of the Sonnenalmbahn lift as this is where the ski school meet. You can hire lockers here too. There are three gondolas at this point, the TrassXpress, the Schmittenhohebahn and Sonnenalmbahn. The ski bus stop drops you off in the car park, so it is straight up the stairs to the kindergarten and all three lifts. Dead easy. We are actually off to Zell tomorrow. Yippee! Have to get up at 3am but not complaining!
