BEAVER CREEK, Colorado — For a split second, Bode Miller was flying sideways, his body parallel to the ground, his hand on the snow and his skis airborne. A split second later, his skis dug in, he sped around the gate, and he was again attacking the course.

It was vintage Miller — skiing the course with abandon and somehow recovering from near disasters.

Miller crossed the finish line in 1 minute, 43.94 seconds, good enough for fourth place in the downhill Saturday on the Birds of Prey course on Beaver Creek Mountain.

Bode back to skiing his way. I think he has been very tentative for the first couple of races and way off the pace. I did chuckle at his face plant in the super combined slalom though.

Cuche is looking good and would be my bet for the GS later. What about bets on Janke doing the triple??

In HD I hope? quite simply extraordinary skiing from Bode, I get the impression he's winding himself up for an assault on the Olympics
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

I watched that, and must admit that i did think that was the end of the race there! Not only that he almost fell on the flat early as well!

Should have had a tenner on Janke for the triple.
