Ski swaps are big in the US/Canada, good for adults skis too. Usually if you help out you get in early and get the pick of the bargains.

The format for skiswaps here, is to drop off items the day before, or morning of the first day. Ski swaps are normally Fri thru Sun. Ski stores and dealers unload their old stock at ski swaps, so there is a lot of new kit as well. Ski swaps often have several hundred pairs of skis and boards to choose from. Most of the ski areas around here have swaps, as well as a few of the ski stores. The key to the actual swap part, is having people live close enough to drop off one day, attend another day, and pick up unsold gear on a third day.

It needs a certain concentration of skiers and boarders in a small area for that format to work. In the UK, you might need to attract people from a wider area, to make it worthwhile, so a different format would be needed. Maybe something like a small regional ski show. This might draw enough people to make the ski swap worthwhile and entertaining enough for them to arrive early with their ski gear to sell, and to hang around all day to sell maybe just one item.
