Riding the first lifts up at 0815 this morning we reach the top of the cable car to find the drag lift isn't running yet, it's normal but it's not worth waiting so we climb straight off the cable car to save time and cut the first track up.
It's a reasonable climb and we're quickly up in the ice of the glacier.
& right after here it's so heavily crevassed that we rope up for safety, it's always a minor pain skiing or skinning on a rope but it needs to be done.
& now we get a good view of the objective, the Allalinhorn at 4027m one of the 4000m peaks the dominate the Saas Fee skyline,
the wind's hit the ridge a bit and it's not practical to continue on skis so we rack them and switch to crampons for a while until the conditions ease enough to return to skis, later we switch back to crampons to make the actual summit ridge....
... where we pose for the obligatory photo's...
... including the compulsory shot of the Matterhorn...
.. and then we ski a couple of thousand metres down towards Saas Fee in time for a lunchtime drink ...
The Allalinhorn is the peak on the left.
