Hi all,
We've been through the ins and outs of buying passes in advance before I'm sure, but I just wanted to know if anyone has used this site to buy lift passes in advance in sterling?

We aren't using them for accommodation but they will take a booking for lift passes, post a voucher and we collect passes in resort.
If anyone has used them can they say if they were reliable?
Would hate to get out to resort and find we'd paid for something and that the voucher wasn't legit.

With the pound as it is against the euro we might save a few quid...if it's worth it...

Dids

Hi Dids,
I haven't used Ski Collection myself, but I've just had a look at their website, and they seem to be part of Peak Retreats, which is a member of ABTA, the travel association, and hence has to abide by their code of conduct - which presumably includes only selling legitimate lift passes. (I checked the ABTA website and they did indeed come up as members).

But their website also said that they only sold ski add ons to people who weren't booking holidays with them, if they were still available and that they would charge a £25 booking fee.

Finally, they look O.K. to me.

Thanks Ally. Yes, you are right...I think they are ok.
I spoke to them after I posted this message.

Annoying thing is they don't do the junior lift pass (called 'reduced' where we're going) so teens pay adult price. The difference is about 8 quid at today's exchange rate. And they require a photo for passes over 3 days which the resort don't..... According to website.

I'm havin a think about it.....

Thanks again,
Dids

Well, that is annoying about the teenage pass.

I bought ours on the internet with my Visa debit card, and waited until the exchange rate wasn't too bad. If you watch it, it varies quite a bit from day to day. I'm on AOL and they do a continous update, doing it from euros to pounds, and today they have it at 0.92, whereas it was at 0.88 only a few days ago, i.e. it's got worse by around 4%, presumably because of the bad news about Lloyds bank plus the ridiculously low bank rate now. I don't know if it's predicted to get worse or improve.

I think if it was me I'd get them now direct on the internet (assuming you can of course) in case things get worse.

Thanks to you as well Magpie. I have known people use Peak Retreats and have a very successful holiday.

I see how the system works now - which I didn't when I posted the message.

We have decided to wait until nearer the time to buy our passes, or get them in resort.
This is because we may decide to have a day or two somewhere else if the snow's not too great.

We're going to Les Saisies (5th April) and the snow is looking good at the moment.
So fingers crossed we can have our 6 days there.
Hope we don't take too big a hit on the exchange rate!

Have a great time Dids1

When we bought our passes from Peak Retreat we had an extra day free and some other discount too, we rang them for the passes about few weeks before and chose the Monday as the start day(we were there for two weeks and had a long drive to our destination) which helped save our Euros there

We have not been where you are going, but we went to Les 2 Alpes last week in april 3 years back(our first time) they had the best snow all season then, some of the chalets /shops had closed for the season so missed out on the lovely dump of snow
ps look out for end of season bargains too

Hi Dids,
I haven't skied at Les Saisies, but a friend of mine skied in the same area, the Espace Diamant, during the Christmas holidays. She was at Praz-sur-Arly. She said it was a great resort, right under Mont Blanc, and uncrowded, so there were no queues for the lifts. Apparently they have been spending a lot of money on new lifts etc. in the area. And at Christmas, anyway, there was plenty of snow. She also said it was very French, with lots of people who couldn't speak English, although they managed O.K. even though they can't speak French.

Have a wonderful holiday,

Ally
